Extracurricular activities in med school? Seriously?! Why not?
Before I entered my first class in Medicine, I had a mindset that I will solely focus in my academics since that was the reason I entered this program, to become a good doctor. But as the pressure keeps going up, stress, sleepless nights, examinations, recitations, case presentations, clinical rotations -BOOM!!! At some point, your brain will tell you to stop what you're doing, have a break, and trust me, it helps a lot.
Extracurriculars would help you take control of the life (SOCIAL LIFE!!!) that you will surely lose when you enroll in Medicine. Mine was hosting and participating in pageants (Mr. Medicine 2012 and Mr. University runner-up -ahem!). Indeed, it has helped me bring my sanity back. If you will just focus on your books 24/7, well good luck with that. Sometimes, we all do need a break and extracurricular activities are one of them.
